The Size of the IRS Employee Cut

The size of the contemplated Internal Revenue Service cuts (up to 40% of headcount!) seems particularly severe- especially for a department in charge of collecting revenue.

Many states (like NY) impose their income tax on any traveling employee who spends even a single day in that state. Last week, legislation was proposed to give employees and employers a 30-day safe-harbor. Nonresident employees could work up to 30 days in another state without owing income tax there or triggering a withholding tax obligation on their employer. Businesses are big supporters. It's been proposed before, but this time it has a real chance of passage.
